ARTIST'S NOTE
The Fairy Queen by Henry Purcell is a masque based loosely off of A Midsummer Night's Dream. This show, to be frank, is all spectacle, no plot. With this show I truly wanted to create a feast for the eyes. Each of my 30 odd ensemble members is based off of some natural element, be that an insect, a flower, or weather pattern. Titania is an elegant Luna Moth, Oberon is a Great Horned Owl, and Robin Goodfellow is, you guessed it, a robin. The show features not only the fast of Midsummer, but also embodiments of the four seasons, embodiments of the Night, Secrecy, and Mystery, and the Roman gods Phoebus and Juno. It required a wild and eclectic ensemble, each which has their own life and inspiration.
